SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW...

i'm a sucker for the details. when i got married to handsome husband, i was all about said details and accessories. the birdcage veil. the champagne shantung silk for the dress. the handmade flower and fascinator for my hair. and THE NECKLACE.

i knew i wanted something that felt a little different than the usual wedding garb and it needed to be bold, too. i also liked the idea that it could be my "something blue" and if it was vintage (that was the overall look i was going for), well, even better. can you say score?

meet uber talented maryellen kim of twist style. her handmade necklaces are to die for. seriously people. perfect for your wedding, bridesmaids, or just something fab to dress up a spring outfit. many of the pieces in her lovely creations are sourced from vintage forgotten beauties (hello, something old?) she picks up at flea markets and yard sales. often times she'll add a splash of freshwater pearls to dress things up a bit (something new?). but they're never "stuffy" pearls...she weaves them on gorgeous silky knotted thread so even the dressiest of necklaces have a certain earthy hand-crafted look. i love her work – it's so different from so many things out there and she has a real knack for putting together great color. i especially dig her hues of soft aqua and mint green. so retro. she even allowed me to piece together my own custom creation for my wedding day. truly one of a kind. so much in fact, that once a piece is used in a custom creation, it's gone!  i've picked out a few of my favorites to share with all of you, but she has way more here.

the only thing my necklace won't ever be is something borrowed. it's mine all miiiiiiine, so keep yer sweet little paws off.
